Chromium Dosage

There is no recommended dosage of chromium picolinate per se. On the other hand, the amount of chromium needed on a daily basis can vary from person to person. Safe amounts, as recommended by the Food and Nutrition Board, associated with the Institute of Medicine, include:

• 35 micrograms for men from 19 to 50 years old
• 30 micrograms for men over 50
• 25 micrograms for women 19 to 50 years old
• 20 micrograms for women over 50
• 30 micrograms for women who are expecting
• 40 to 45 micrograms for lactating women ^[1]

Chromium Side Effects

Adverse reactions from taking chromium are rare. Nevertheless, if the supplement is taken in high dosages other than intestinally, skin irritation can develop. Also, chromium can have a profound effect on diabetic medications, which can, in turn, produce hypoglycemia. ^{[1] [2]}
